Bicycles

In many rural communities, children walk long distances to school each day, often spending hours on unsafe roads or wildlife populated bush and arriving tired and discouraged. These long journeys affect attendance, concentration, and personal safety, especially in the early mornings and late afternoons.

Jafuta Foundation’s Bicycle Programme provides bicycles to learners living long distances from schools to reduce travel time and improve safety. With bicycles, students are able to get home earlier while it is still daylight - an important benefit in areas without electricity - allowing time to do homework or study before dark. This directly supports better learning outcomes and school retention.

Beyond education, bicycles improve overall mobility by enabling easier access to health services, markets, and community activities. Through this simple but high-impact intervention, Jafuta Foundation removes a major barrier to education while improving safety, wellbeing, and opportunity for rural students.
